Smoke, fire, and wildfire testing in California
After a house fire or a nearby wildfire, the question is usually what smoke, soot, and ash left behind, and whether burned or damaged materials released asbestos or lead.
When people ask
- Smoke, soot, or ash got into the home after a fire or wildfire
- Cleanup or repairs are being planned
- An insurance claim needs documented test results
- Older building materials were burned or damaged
The credential
Asbestos sampling in fire-damaged materials needs a Cal/OSHA-certified asbestos consultant (CAC/CSST), and lead sampling needs a current California Department of Public Health (CDPH) lead certification. We confirm credentials during vetting before a partner goes Active. California doesn't issue a state license for smoke, soot, or ash testing, so ask your partner what training they hold.
We match the request. The partner decides whether the scope is soot and ash, asbestos, lead, or a combination, and they write the report.
Testing documents what smoke and fire left behind. It is not a re-entry decision. After a wildfire, follow local officials on when it's safe to return.
