Soil testing in California
Soil testing for lead is the most common request, around gardens, play areas, and older painted buildings. Partners can also test for other contaminants, for example before a property sale.
When people ask
- A vegetable garden or play area near an older building
- A sale or a project asks for soil data
- Fill dirt, a spill, or past use of the land is unknown
The credential
For lead in soil at a home, the partner needs a current California Department of Public Health (CDPH) lead certification. For other soil sampling, California doesn't issue a state license, so ask your partner what training they hold. We confirm credentials during vetting before a partner goes Active.
We match the request. The partner decides what to test for and where to sample, and they write the report.
A soil result describes the spots that were sampled. It isn't a cleanup plan.
