Water quality testing in California

Well water testing and testing for lead in drinking water are the most common requests. Partners can also check tap or well water for other metals or bacteria, depending on what you need to know.

When people ask

  • An older building with original plumbing
  • A private well
  • A change in taste, color, or smell
  • A sale, a tenant, or a lender asks for results

The credential

Drinking water samples should be analyzed by a laboratory accredited under California's Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program (ELAP). California doesn't issue a state license for collecting water samples, so ask your partner what training they hold. We confirm credentials during vetting before a partner goes Active.

We match the request. The partner decides what to test for and how to collect the samples, and they write the report.

We don't say whether water is safe to drink. For public water, your water supplier publishes a yearly water quality report. For a private well, ask your county environmental health office.

Request a tester

Tell us the test and the city. You get a job reference, and the service credit is part of that referral.
